"Light of Life" (命の灯 Inochi no Akari?) is the 11th episode of the Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso anime adaptation. It first aired in Japan on December 18th, 2014.
Blurb[]
Kousei’s performance ends. When he returns to the waiting room at the competition venue, his late mother’s friend, Hiroko Seto is there. Hiroko, Japan’s leading pianist, has picked up on the emotion in Kousei’s playing. “The piano will drag everything out of its performer.” Kousei is perplexed by her words. Finally, the results of the competition are posted, but Takeshi and Emi, seeing the strangely cheerful look on Kousei’s face, are struck by how he’s changed and matured.

Quotes[]
When Kaori and Kousei were in a field with fireflies, Kaori went on to ask Kousei what he had in his heart, his motivation to play even after he stopped. Kousei then says, “I had you.” Kaori then gave him a longing stare.
Then, shortly after, Kaori quotes Charlie Brown from the Peanuts, saying “You know, I’m not always going to be around to help you.” (Kousei had begun walking a few feet ahead of Kaori & wasn't turned towards her when she said this in a lowered tone under her breath.)
Trivia[]
- When Kaori was holding the firefly, she said “It’s so weak, but it’s shining with all its might.” Many believe she is referring to herself, because she was strong willed, but was fighting an illness.
- The song used in the firefly scene ("My Truth" as listed above) has two different versions. One being by ENA (the version used in the episode) and one by Risa Taneda, who is Kaori's voice actress.
- The episode gets its name from Kaori’s quote in the episode, “This is the light of life.”, where she references the firefly’s persistence, and its ability to shine.
